The original GLENCAIRN GLASS is regarded by whisky connoisseurs as the ultimate glass for enjoying fine Scotch whiskies and Irish whiskies. The glass was developed in the 1970s by designer Raymond Davidson for Glencairn Crystal Ltd, Scotland, and was initially used exclusively in specialised whisky laboratories for tasting. The glass has only been available to consumers since 2001 and is now officially used by several whisky distilleries in Scotland and Ireland as their whisky glass. The wide body of the glass allows the flavours to develop well, while the narrower neck ensures that they are bundled and directed to the nose. The solid base of the glass is less prone to breakage than a traditional stem and sits comfortably in the hand. The glasses are made of lead-free crystal glass and can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
