The offset knife with a 10 cm blade length is characterised by its upward-shifted handle, which allows the full length of the blade to be used on the work surface whilst still enabling a comfortable and secure grip.

The company Zyliss was founded in 1951 by the bicycle mechanic and inventor Karl Zysset (1907–1988) in Lyss, a small town near Bern. Zyliss invented the garlic press in 1948 and the salad spinner in 1978, and registered many further patents throughout his career. The Blitzhacker, introduced in 1953 and later known as the ZICK-ZICK, became a much-copied classic.
