The drum and handle can be used on either side, so left-handers can also operate the grater comfortably. The body is made from high-quality plastic containing wheat straw, and the ergonomically designed handle can be opened 180° for effortless cleaning.

The company Zyliss was founded in 1951 by the bicycle mechanic and inventor Karl Zysset (1907–1988) in Lyss, a small town near Bern. The food chopper, introduced in 1953 and later known as the ZICK-ZICK, became a much-copied classic.
