The company Zyliss was founded in 1951 by the bicycle mechanic and inventor Karl Zysset (1907–1988) in Lyss, a small town near Bern. Zyliss invented the garlic press in 1948 and the salad spinner in 1978, and registered many more patents throughout his career. The Blitzhacker, introduced in 1953 and later known as the ZICK-ZICK, became a much-copied classic.
